The one-hour programme, which premiered at FACT cinema on Monday night and aired on LFC TV for the first time 24 hours later, celebrates the contribution of black players to the club's success story as part of October's Black History Month.

Featuring revealing interviews with a host of stars describing their experiences as a black player from the 1970s through to the present day, the documentary brings together Anfield's first black footballer Howard Gayle, together with contributions from John Barnes, Emile Heskey and Ryan Babel. There were also enlightening contributions from Garth Dallas (editor Diverse Magazine), Laurence Westgaph (historian, writer) and Ervine Okuboh (writer, economic development expert) amongst others.

"The documentary shows pride in our diversity and celebrates the work of these footballers and the impact they've had at England's most successful football club," claims Rakesh Daryanani, Diversity & Inclusions Officer at LFC.

oh btw Dalglish never sold Barnes when he was at liverpool or at newcastle. Barnes didnt leave newcastle untill 1999 whilst dalglish left in 1998. In fact, barnes was dalglish's assitant whilst he was manager of celtic.

im minxed race, and you guys are very delusional if you think daglish is racist just because he's sold a few black players. I have a lot of respect for Babel because of the positive things he has said/done for the club but he simply wasnt good enough. Granted Rafa wasted his talent and proably shook his confidence but when ever he was given a chance whether it was under hodgsen or dalglish he didnt take it. Same goes for el zhar and plessis aswell.

    Barnes (25.12.2011, 01:28)

I agree Simon, daglish does seem very racist, when he came to Liverpool he sold very black player there, Ryan babel, plessis, el zhar, etc.

When Dalgish was at Newcastle, he sold Ferdinand, Hislop and Asprilla. Glen Johnson is mixed race, not black. Everyone talks about John Barnes but I remember the two nicknames he had at Anfield, DIGGER and TARMAC! Not one first team black squad member at Liverpool. How many were at Blackburn when he was boss? NONE! This stinks of racism and I am suprised more has not been said of it. If Suarez is found guilty, I wonder what Dalglish will do to him. Do Liverpool want to employ a convicted racist?

    Barnes (3.9.2011, 00:35)

There is hardly any first team black players now at Liverpool, a real shame, it used to be a very diverse club but in recent seasons they hardly buy any black players, and so far this season, daglish has sold most of the black squad players and has only bought in White players. They regularly field an all white line up and this season the only black player in the whole squad is Glenn johnson. But no one will say anything because their too scared but compared to all the other premiership clubs, Liverpool do not employ black players!

The same cannot be said about Liverpool Academy ! I wonder if we will ever see black staff there or another Liverpool born black player graduate to the first team, my experience tells me not !
