BBC Radio Merseyside is looking for a talented broadcaster to present its weekly community programme Upfront. Every Saturday night the programme mixes news and views from Merseyside's black community with targeted music, chat and What's Ons.

The show was presented by James Klass (pictured left) for many years before he sadly passed away on July 12th 2009.

The presenter will need good contacts in the region's black community, as well as know what people are talking about, what's on their minds, and also be aware of the stories that are really affecting people's lives. The individual will also need the creativity and production skills to turn those stories into great radio.

The job description states that they need someone with a natural and authentic presence on-air, an engaging personality and good story-telling skills. Furtheremore the person will need to be able to carry out a wide range of interviews reflecting hard news stories as well as the lighter side of life within Merseyside's black community.  "We want someone who's really ambitious for the programme, with the talent and skills to lift it to the next level".

The role requires the person to work closely with the programme's producer and therefore it is expected that the presenter will play a part in the broader life of the radio station, regularly providing stories, contacts and ideas to daily programmes and the BBC Liverpool website. There is also a requirement to regularly attend the station's planning meetings.

As well as presenting the programme, the new presenter will also be expected to offer material each week to "UK Black" the national podcast which brings together stories from African and Caribbean programmes across BBC Local Radio.

For an informal chat about this opportunity, call Managing Editor Mick Ord on 0151 794 0910 or Assistant Editor Jonathan Hallewell on 07885 224583.

As part of the application, applications should send a 10 - 15 minute all-speech demo recording to the station's Managing Editor. This should be sent on CD to Mick Ord, BBC Radio Merseyside, 31 College Lane, Liverpool L1 3DS, or send a website link to mick.ord@bbc.co.uk

The recording should showcase your on-air personality, broadcasting ability and interviewing skills. The demo can be drawn from material which has been broadcast or from simulated broadcasts.

Mick Ord said "We're looking for an imaginative, dynamic experienced radio presenter with a deep knowledge of Merseyside's black community. He or she must be capable of contributing ideas to 'Upfront' and also BBC Radio Merseyside's other programmes ; it's a great opportunity for the right individual".
